Thank God for THEY!
If we didn’t have THEY around, we would have to take responsibility for our own actions, results, and failures. THEY are good in that a bad day is their fault. THEY make us happy because we can quit something and point the finger at THEY. Without THEY, politicians, business owners, and employees would need to do a lot more introspection.
But THEY, in this context, are really bad for us. THEY are the root of assumptions and stereotypes. Of conflict and broken relationships. THEY prevent us from thinking clearly and making better decisions. Of taking ownership.
This week begin putting a face and a name to THEY. Be specific. Then, once you have a list of THEY, start building a relationship with THEY. You don’t have to be best friends with THEY, just get to know them.
This is the first key to good relationship management.
