“If you want to change things in a big way, then you gotta make some big changes…”

Rocky Balboa to Adonis Creed

I was watching Creed 2 on a recent business trip and this line made me think.

Most companies I work with believe in the principles of Kaizen, which means big, lasting changes come from a series of small improvements.  It makes sense.  This gives you time to test and monitor.

The problem is, it can take too long!

We live in a society driven by instant gratification.  Who has time for Kaizen?

Adonis Creed didn’t after being nearly beaten to death by Viktor Drago, so Rocky sent him off into a desert training facility to prepare for the rematch.

Big changes = Big Results.

In my case, I got tired of running around the country like a crazy man and wanted to increase my income, so I made the BIG change of scaling my business as, well, a BUSINESS.  And it worked!  Those were some BIG changes, trust me!

But let’s talk about you? Do you want to be a more valuable employee and get a raise?  MAKE SOME BIG IMPROVEMENTS IN THE QUALITY OF YOUR WORK.

Do you want to be a better boss?  START IMPROVING YOUR MANAGEMENT DEVELOPMENT WORK BY READING OR STUDYING OR LEARNING NEW SKILLS, ONE HOUR EXTRA PER DAY!

Kaizen is good.  But in some cases, BIG changes are better.

This week, do a personal inventory of your goals and choose the approach that works best for you.

And to see if it worked for Adonis Creed, you’ll have to watch the movie.
